Linda Ellerbee on “Dangerous Mexico”
The following is an excerpt from a column by Emmy winning journalist, producer, news anchor Linda Ellerbee. Anyone and everyone with question about the safety of traveling to Mexico and Rocky Point should read this. While Ms. Ellerbee writes about her home away from home (Puerto Vallarta), the exact same words apply to Rocky Point. It’s a compelling read for anyone with questions or concerns about the safety of Rocky Point, or Mexico in general, and the damage the media is doing.
“I’m a journalist who lives in New York City, but has spent considerable time in Mexico, specifically Puerto Vallarta, for the last four years. I’m in Vallarta now. And despite what I’m getting from the U.S. media, the 24-hour news networks in particular, I feel as safe here as I do at home in New York, possibly safer.
But that’s not the whole story. Neither is this. This is my story….”

NEW VIDEO! Shooting Aboard the Amelia Rose…
Jesse just finished up this video of our shoots aboard Larry Large’s yacht, The Amelia Rose. We had a blast. Who wouldn’t? A dozen or so models aboard a 112 foot custom yacht? We set sail from the old port in Rocky Point early in the afternoon, and didn’t return until dark. Everyone was wiped out, but man what a great time. Don’t forget, you can meet most of these lovely ladies on June 6th at Chango’s for our calendar release and signing party. Enjoy the video!

Circus Mexicus and Calendar Signing Party News!

Jim Dalton
Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers have been touring the country like madmen with the latest addition to the band, lead guitarist Jim Dalton, and now they’re just about ready to return to Mexico, home to some of the most legendary RCPM shows ever.
This year marks the first year that Chango’s will be hosting one of the biggest events of the year in Puerto Penasco, Circus Mexicus. This all day music festival, starring Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers promises to be the biggest and best show yet, with the move to the much larger venue. We are especially excited here at GORP because many of us (including many of our lovely models) will be in attendance. June 6th is going to be a big day in Rocky Point. The day of the show, we’ll be having our calendar release and signing party at Chango’s, right across from the venue, and some of performers from the show will be stopping by to hang out and entertain. This will be your chance to be among the first to get the very first edition of “The Girls of Rocky Point Calendar” and to have it signed by one of our calendar models. A portion of every calendar sale will go to benefit the Esparanza Para Los Niños Orphanage, so if you haven’t done so, get your tickets and more information at the Circus Mexicus site, OR if you’re local and a Mexican Citizen, you can get discounted tickets for only 100 pesos directly from Chango’s. Just stop by today and buy your tickets.
Another big reason this years show will be the biggest and best yet is that the new venue is located near Sandy Beach, home to some of the newest and nicest resorts in Rocky Point. You can book a condo or a beach house within EASY walking distance of the venue. These resorts are beautiful, gated resorts with beach access, ample parking, pools, onsite dining, and many other amenities. You can book one, two, or 3 bedroom condos or (at the Las Palmas). even a house on the beach. The Las Palmas is the preferred resort for the Girls of Rocky Point Calendar crew and models. This Weeks Featured Model: Ana Lourdes Moreno Cano
An entry from our “Last Chance” contest on April 24, Ana heard about our contest and calendar from some of her model friends in Hermosillo, and travelled all the way to Rocky Point in order to compete in our contest, and are we glad she did. While Ana is from Hermosillo where she currently lives with her family while she pursues a career in runway modeling, Ana frequently travels to Puerto Penasco on holiday where she enjoys dancing at the clubs in El Mirador with her friends, and spending time on the beaches.
Here’s a sampling of some of the great images this young lady helped produce. We hope you enjoy viewing them as much as we enjoyed creating them.

Don Giannitti Takes an Image from Setup to PP.
Here’s an excerpt from a post on Don’s website about a shot he did while his workshop helped us with our recent calendar shoot in Rocky Point Mexico. Don takes the image from setup to post processing. It’s a very informative, and well written article.

Well, let’s look at this first image. It is one I did on Sunday and features Laura. I rarely get to shoot at the workshops, but the guys were all shooting some shots of the calendar models and I had a moment to set something up. Dan helped Jerry and I make this shot. We used a Dynalite 400WS Monobloc with a Vagabond for power. Light modifier is a 22″ beauty dish and it was on a stand that we improvised into a boom for the carbon-based-voice-activated light stands….

Featured Model of the Week: Jazmin Riley
This weeks featured model of the week (and our first one EVER) is Jazmin Riley.
Jazmin is a Mexican citizen living in the US where she studies Graphic Design and is also pursing a career in modeling. Originally from Hermosillo, Sonora, where her family still lives, Jazmin’s first visit to Rocky Point was on a modeling assignment about a year ago. she now visits every chance she gets. Not so much for the club scene these days since she’s gotten engaged, Jazmin’s favorite things about Rocky Point are the people, the beaches, and the sunshine. Fluent in both Spanish and English, Jazmin is not only one of our favorite models, but our translator and model liaison.
So have a look at some of the new images we took of Jazmin this week, and a few of our favorites from the week she competed in our contest.
Wow what a Weekend!

Well we’re home from shooting the “Girls of Rocky Point 2009=2010 Calendar”, and wow what a time we had. In addition to our events at Chango’s, we had photo shoots going on all over town, including aboard Larry Large’s 112 foot yacht, “The Amelia Rose”. Stay tuned over the next couple weeks as we post new images of all of lovely calendar models taken by our talented group of photographers and attendees from Don Giannitti’s Lighting Essential Workshops.

And don’t forget our Calendar Release and Signing Party at Chango’s Bar and Grill on June 6th 2009. If the date rings a bell, that’s because it’s the same date as the big Circus Mexicus show in Rocky Point. Circus Mexicus is Roger Clyne and the Peacemaker’s legendary all day show, which should prove to be even MORE legendary now that the venue has moved to the large lot across from Chango’s, and Chango’s is hosting the event. So come to the big show early, and hang out with our lovely calendar models, and get yourself a signed edition of the first EVERY “Girls of Rocky Point” calendar.

New Contests at Chango’s Announced
“Last Chance Contest” and “Meet and Greet the Models” event on Friday April 24th
We had so much fun the last three time, we just have to have one more. Regrettably, some of our models will not be able to travel to Rocky Point for our Calendar shoots on April 25th and 26th, so we’ve got some open slots, and we’ll be holding a “Last Chance to be a Calendar Model” contest at Chango’s on Friday April 24th. If you missed our contests last time, now is your chance. Just register on our registration page, and show up for the show, and then be ready for some terrific fun on Saturday and Sunday when you’ll be photographed by some of Phoenix’s best fashion and beauty photographers. You may even be selected for a shoot aboard the 112 foot custom built yacht, “The Amelia Rose”.
A lot of our previous winners will also be at the show, and although they won’t be competing (they’re already winners!), they’ll be hanging out, dancing, and having a good time with the rest of the crowd.
“Cover Girl Contest” Saturday April 25th
Join us on Saturday April 25th, when we select an announce our Calendar Cover Girl from among our previous winners, and any winners we pick on Friday night’s contest. This show is going to ROCK even more than the last contest did. If you were there, you KNOW what I mean! Do NOT miss this show!
Big Lights On Location
Most of us here at GORP use small speedlights extensively. We’re big fans of David Hobby, and his blog at strobist.com. We use speedlights for many different situations. They’re invaluable when you need to travel light, and used correctly, can provide excellent results, but there are times when they just aren’t enough. For example, when your trying to beat the sun with your flash on a sunny Mexican beach. Unless you’ve got a camera with a VERY high native sync speed or FP Sync (Focal plane high-speed sync), and the triggering system to accommodate FP Sync, you’re going to be firing your speedlights at high power very close to your subject. Your recycle times are going to be long, and your speedlights just might not have the power you need. Since shooting on the beaches and locations of Rocky Point, a lot of us have taken to bringing portable but bigger lights. If you’d like to read more about using big lights on location, check out this post on Don Giannitti’s Lighting Essentials site. Don’s got written an excellent post about 2 of our photographers on location with their big lights. And don’t forget, if you’re considering taking one of Don’s workshops, this year his Mexico workshop will be held at the same time as our primary calendar photography in April, and all students will be given the opportunity to assist on the calendar, and do some shooting of their own. So check out his Mexico workshop page here, and then sign up for it at the Las Palmas Resort site here.
Contest Winners for March 14th!
Well guys and gals, it’s a bit late, but here are pics from our winners for the contest on March 14. It was a terrific night, and we heard from guest after guest that Chango’s was the hottest ticket in town that night. Many had been to other clubs before coming to Chango’s, but they STAYED at Chango’s.
I’m out of town this week, so posts might be a bit sporadic, but stayed tuned for more photos from these lovely ladies, as well as video we shot at the show.
R-Vel and Serious Video
OK everyone, if you missed the fun at Chango’s last Saturday night, here’s just a sneak peak at what you missed. Check back for more photos and videos later:

Myann Rowland Co-Hosts This Weeks Bikini Contest with Serious!
This just in…The lovely Myann Rowland from the popular Rocky Point blog mynparty.blogspot.com (and one of our lovely calendar girls), will be sharing hosting and MC duties with Hip Hop artist Serious in our first bikini contest of Spring Break 2009. Now we love Serious, the mans got flow, but he can’t speak a word of Spanish….wait…maybe he can. I didn’t ask. When Myann said she’d serve as our Spanish speaking co-host I JUMPED at the chance!

We’ve got great talent hosting. and performing, a lot of gorgeous girls pre-registered (we know they’re gorgeous because we added an upload photo feature to the submission form!), and we’re expecting a lot more to register on the day of the show. Sunrise In Rocky Point
I’m sitting on the balcony of a beautiful 3 bedroom condo (courtesy of the Las Palmas) watching the sunrise over the Sea of Cortez this morning while I wait for the other photographer and our assistants to wake up. This is my 6th trip to Rocky Point in the last year, and as always, the drive down was incident free. For anyone with any hesitation about travelling to Mexico with all the media hype going on right now, you really should read this: http://phoenix.metromix.com/bars-and-clubs/article/is-it-safe-to/983780/content . Like I said, I’ve made this trip 6 times since April of last year, and I have NEVER seen anything at the border, or on the way down, that would give me pause. I’m not saying to ignore everything that is going down in Mexico right now. Personally I wouldn’t going loitering around in downtown Juarez at the moment, but then I’ve never found a compelling reason to go to Juarez in the first place.
We left my home just south of Phoenix yesterday just before 5:00 PM, and we were in Rocky Point by 8:00 PM. We stopped into Chango’s to say hi, have a bite to eat (great food), and test the Internet connection for the live feed tonight. The staff got great big kick out of the fact that we were broadcasting live from Chango’s and everyone copied the URL and starting calling home to have their friends and families check the broadcast page ( http://www.girlsofrockypoint.com/images-and-video/ ). One of the contestants coming over from Hermosillo stopped in the video chat room to say hi.
Well the sun is up now. It’s supposed to be 80 degrees here today, and we’re looking forward to a great day of shooting, and a fun time tonight at Chango’s, so if you’re stuck in some cold and rainy place like Seattle (HI DON!), check our live feed tonight, and join the fun here in sunny Mexico!
OH, and a big shout out to Myaann Roland over at http://www.mynparty.blogspot.com/. We’ve heard a lot about this gal, and we’re just dying to meet her! See you tonight girl!
Hip Hop Act Serious and R-Vel at Chango’s on March 7th
This just in. Hip Hop Artist Serious and R-Vel will be performing at the March 7th bikini contest at Chango’s and Serious will be our MC for the event. Check out this shot one of our group (Jerry O’Connor) did for this duo’s just released CD “Every Wednesday”

And have a listen to this track “All In” from the CD Every Wednesday
